The VNUS ClosureFAST Procedure is the next generation catheter for endovenous radio-frequency ablation (EVRFA). The ClosureFASTTM system utilizes a higher temperature and a shorter procedure time for the treatment of venous insufficiency. Each minimally invasive vein surgery case is different so our vein surgeons will evaluate which catheter is best suited for your individual veins.
This relatively new procedure, ClosureFASTTM, is designed to treat varicose veins. Original or out-dated treatments for varicose veins were to surgically strip the affected veins (Vein stripping), however we now have the technologically superior ClosureFASTTM procedure which utilizes radio-frequency waves generated by an electrode to close the vein. The electrodes generate heat causing the veins to heat and gradually collapse. With time, the veins are removed by the body’s natural system.
Unlike the previous VNUS Closure procedure which only has a heating probe at the very end of the electrode, the ClosureFASTTM has 6.5 cm of an electrode which generates the radio-frequency waves. The VNUS ClosureFASTTM procedure uses a higher temperature to close off the varicose vein. The entire saphenous vein in the thigh varies from 20-40 cm and the entire procedure can be completed in a few minutes.
