Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

Conventionally, sclerotherapy was only used on smaller veins; that was until the advent of new technology called Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy.

Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy is good for individuals in need of a fast, relatively painless method for the removal of problematic veins. Often a single treatment with ultrasound guided sclerotherapy will remove a cluster of spider veins especially if they are networked with large varicose veins. An important point to remember is before having conventional sclerotherapy you may be asked by the Vein Guys to have the larger more tortuous varicose veins treated first if you suffer from both spider and varicose veins. The underlying causes of vein disease need to be corrected to have a healthy overall venous symptom again.

Treatment with ultrasound sclerotherapy will usually last between fifteen minutes and one hour. This is dependent on the extent of the vein removal needs. This procedure is performed on varicose veins and reticular veins (which are in between varicose and spider veins in size).

After the veins are disabled by the injection, you will be required to wear a special type of pantyhose called compression hose for the next couple of days. This prevents any veins from distending themselves or clumping. You will also be required to avoid activities that affect the circulatory and vascular systems including; exercise, saunas, hot baths and drinking alcohol.
